Known in full as Mohammad Yahya bin Lampong, he served as the Member of Parliament for Kota Belud from 1982 to 1986 and represented Tempasuk in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly from 1985 to 1986. He also held the post of deputy minister of rural development.
Lampong later moved between several political parties, joining UMNO after USNO was dissolved in 1990, leaving for BERSEKUTU in 1999 before rejoining UMNO within hours, and eventually turning to PKR in 2012.
