Arthur Louis Schechter, an American politician, diplomat and attorney, died on April 13, 2026, at age 86.
He was born on December 6, 1939, in Rosenberg, Texas, and attended public schools there before graduating from Lamar High School. Schechter earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas, where he was a member of Phi Sigma Delta, the Friar Society and the Silver Spurs.
He received a law degree from the University of Texas Law School in 1964 and later attended the University of Houston for graduate study in political science and foreign affairs.
