
Alex Caldiero, an American poet, died on February 13, 2026.
Born Alissandru Francesco Caldiero in Licodia Eubea, near Catania, Sicily, in 1949, he immigrated to the United States at age nine and was raised in Manhattan and Brooklyn. He attended Queens College and was apprenticed to sculptor Michael Lekakis and poet-bard Ignazio Buttitta.
Caldiero lived in Utah from 1980, after converting to Mormonism, and served as poet and artist in residence at Utah Valley University. His work was reviewed by The Village Voice and The New York Times, and he was included in A Dictionary of the Avant-Gardes.
