Born in Tehran on November 22, 1929, he studied at Cornell University from 1947 to 1950 before entering Harvard Medical School, where he earned his M.D. in 1954.

He later completed surgical training at Massachusetts General Hospital and held senior posts in Iran, including under-secretary for medical education and health services and dean of the medical school at Pahlavi University, now Shiraz University. Saidi also taught at Shahid Beheshti University and authored Surgery of Hydatid Disease, published in 1976.
