Solomon Minassian, an Iranian movie producer and cinematographer, died October 27, 2026, aged 95.
Born in Rasht in 1310 in the Iranian calendar, he was of Armenian descent and the elder brother of Hrand Minassian. He began working in cinema in 1337, first as a camera assistant and later as a cinematographer on short documentary and advertising films.
After joining Golestan Film Studio, Minassian took part in Ebrahim Golestan’s 1337 film Wave, Coral and Rock as an assistant cinematographer, an early credit in a career that included both behind-the-camera support and cinematography. He went on to serve as cinematographer on numerous documentaries produced at the studio, working with Golestan on a range of projects. Among them was Golestan’s 1343 film Brick and Mirror, for which Minassian was cinematographer. His recorded work connects short documentary and advertising productions with the documentary output of Golestan Film Studio, and includes contributions in both an assisting role and as the cinematographer.
