Wayne Granger, an American baseball player who pitched for the Cincinnati Reds, died on February 28, 2026.

He was a major league relief pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros and Montreal Expos.

Granger played for Cincinnati from 1969 to 1971 and was considered one of baseball’s most effective and durable relief pitchers during the early years of the Big Red Machine. He graduated from Huntington High School in Huntington, Massachusetts, later attended Springfield College and was inducted into the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame in 2010.

Wayne Allan Granger (March 15, 1944 – February 25, 2026) was an American professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball as a relief pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals (1968, 1973), Cincinnati Reds (1969–1971), Minnesota Twins (1972), New York Yankees (1973), Chicago White Sox (1974), Houston Astros (1975), and Montreal Expos (1976). Granger was one of baseball’s most effective and durable relief pitchers during the early years of Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine.
