Founded in 1976 by Daniel and Margaret Duckhorn as The St. Helena Wine Company with eight co-investors, it released its first wines in 1980, including Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot made from purchased grapes. The company was known for wines including Three Palms Vineyard Merlot, and for Calera and Kosta Browne.
