André Vanasse Writer dead at age 83

André Vanasse

André Vanasse, a Canadian writer, died on February 26, 2026, at age 83 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Montreal on March 6, 1942, he was a member of the Académie des lettres du Québec and was nominated for a Governor General’s Award in French-language children’s literature for the novel Des Millions pour une chanson. In 2017, he was appointed to the Order of Canada for his work promoting Quebec literature over more than five decades.
