Wren, an American journalist and author who spent 28 years as a foreign correspondent for The New York Times, died on February 26, 2026. Born Christopher Sale Wren in Hollywood, California, on February 22, 1936, he was the son of actor Sam Wren and actress Virginia Sale.

In 1949, he and his twin sister Virginia appeared with their parents in the ABC-TV comedy The Wren’s Nest. Wren graduated from Trinity-Pawling School in 1953, earned a BA in English from Dartmouth in 1957, did graduate work in Russian at the University of Edinburgh on a Rotary fellowship, served in the United States Army as a paratrooper with the Green Berets, and received a master’s degree from the Columbia School of Journalism in 1961.

Christopher Sale Wren (February 22, 1936 – February 15, 2026) was an American journalist and author. For 28 years he was a foreign correspondent for The New York Times.
