Tamás Vásáry Hungarian pianist and conductor dead at age 92

Tamás Vásáry, the Hungarian pianist and conductor, died on February 5, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born in Debrecen on August 11, 1933, he began as a child prodigy, playing Mozart in public at age eight and later studying at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music from age twelve. He went on to make an international career, living in Switzerland from 1956 and in London from 1970.

Vásáry was known for his interpretations of Romantic-era music, especially the works of Chopin, Liszt and Schumann.
