
Ray Handley, an American football coach best known for leading the New York Giants, died on February 5, 2026, at age 81.
Handley was the Giants’ head coach from 1991 to 1992, a two-season tenure that was marked by turmoil. Born Robert Ray Handley on October 8, 1944, in Artesia, New Mexico, he later moved with his family to Reno, where he became an all-state high school football player.
He went on to play three seasons as a running back at Stanford beginning in 1963.
