Fred Smith, the American bassist best known for his work with the rock band Television, died on February 5, 2026, at the age of 77.
Born Fredrick Edward Lefkowitz in New York City on April 10, 1948, he performed with Television and was formerly associated with Blondie. Smith also began making wine with his wife, artist Paula Cereghino, in 1999; they later moved production to Bloomington, New York, and formally established the artisanal winery Cereghino Smith in 2007.
