Greg Brown (rock musician) American musician and songwriter dead at age 56

Greg Brown, an American musician and songwriter known for his work with Cake and Deathray, died on February 5, 2026.

Born Gregory Paul Brown in Sacramento, California, on January 3, 1970, he was a founding member of Cake and played guitar on the albums Motorcade of Generosity and Fashion Nugget before leaving the band in 1998. He later joined Deathray, where he provided backing vocals and lead guitar, and wrote or co-wrote songs for the band’s 2000 debut album.

Brown also joined the side project Homie and later played piano and guitar and co-produced Puckett’s Versus the Country Boy.

Gregory Paul Brown (January 3, 1970 – February 5, 2026) was an American guitarist and founding member of the band Cake.
