
Peter Gülke, the German conductor and musicologist, died on April 26, 2026, at the age of 91.
Born in Weimar on April 29, 1934, he studied cello and musicology at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar. He completed a doctorate in philosophy in Leipzig in 1958 and later finished his professorial thesis at Technische Universität Berlin in 1985.
In 1976, he became conductor at the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden, and in 1981 he was appointed Principal Conductor in Weimar. From 1986 to 1996, he served as Principal Conductor in the City.
