
Oleg Maisenberg, a Ukrainian-born Austrian pianist, died on April 16, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born in Odessa, then in the Ukrainian SSR, he received his first piano lessons from his mother at age five. He studied at the Central Music School in Kishinev and the Gnessin Institute in Moscow with Professor Alexander Jocheles.
In 1967, he won second prize at the International Schubert Competition in Vienna and first prize in the competition Music of the Twentieth Century. He emigrated to Vienna in 1981 and later appeared with major orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic.
