Born Andrea Pelucha on November 2, 1962, in Vienna, she grew up in the city and first studied law and economics before completing a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Vienna in 1993. She went on to work as an anaesthesiologist and later served in the Austrian Federal Government as Minister for Health, Family and Youth from January 11, 2007, to December 2, 2008, in the cabinet of Alfred Gusenbauer.
