Lionel Rosenblatt, an American diplomat and president of Refugees International from 1990 to 2001, died on April 11, 2026, of cancer.

He was 82. Born in New Rochelle, New York, in 1943, Rosenblatt graduated from Harvard College and attended Stanford Law School for a year before joining the Foreign Service.

He served in Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Thailand in the 1960s and early 1970s, later as refugee coordinator at the U.S. Embassy in Thailand. He was among the leading advocates for resettling Indochinese refugees in the United States during the 1970s and 1980s.
