Desai Williams, the Canadian Olympic sprinter, died on April 10, 2022, aged 62.
Born Empson Othman Desai Williams in Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, he became one of Canada’s leading track sprinters and won an Olympic bronze medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay at the Los Angeles 1984 Games.
He also competed at the first two World Championships, reaching the semifinals in 1983 and 1987, and set personal bests of 20.29 seconds in the 200 metres in 1983 and 10.11 seconds in the 100 metres at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Williams died in Mississauga.
