Born in Podgorica on August 9, 1978, he played as a goalkeeper. A memorable episode in his career came on October 28, 2006, when Bežanija hosted Voždovac in a league fixture.
With Bežanija trailing 1-0, Božović saved a penalty taken by Miloš Kolaković in the 88th minute. In the fourth minute of injury time, he went forward for a corner and scored with a header, bringing the match to a 1-1 finish. The late equalizer followed his penalty save in the closing stages of the same match. In June 2007, Božović moved to Partizan and played regularly for the club during his first six months there. His place in the starting eleven changed in the second half of the 2007-08 season, when fellow Montenegrin goalkeeper Mladen Božović arrived at Partizan in the winter transfer window. Darko Božović remained with the club until the summer of 2010, when Partizan released him after he had received little playing time in the previous two years.
