More about John Angus
John Angus, a Canadian politician and businessman who served on Winnipeg city council and in the Manitoba legislature, died October 13, 2026, aged 83.
Born March 3, 1943, he studied at the University of Winnipeg and the Manitoba Institute of Technology. Angus was first elected to Winnipeg council in 1977, representing St.
Norbert, a ward at the city’s southern tip. He served until 1988 and became deputy mayor in 1986. In the 1988 provincial election, he won a seat in the Manitoba Legislative Assembly, where he served until 1990. Angus returned to city council in 1992 and remained there until 2004. During his early municipal years, he was associated with the Independent Citizens’ Election Committee, a now-defunct organization that generally represented developers and suburban residents. Outside elected office, he served as an executive member of the Winnipeg Business Development Corporation and was vice-president of Comcheq, a Canadian provider of computerized payroll services. His business interests included an international software company and a real estate firm, and he held a broker’s licence. His career thus spanned municipal and provincial government as well as business, with more than two decades of service on Winnipeg council across two periods.
