Derek Ryder, the English footballer who played for Rochdale, Southport and Cardiff City, died on July 20, 2026.

Born Derek Francis Ryder in Leeds on February 18, 1947, he was a full back whose career began with his hometown club Leeds United. After being released in 1966 without breaking into the first team, he moved to Cardiff City and made his Football League debut.

Ryder later joined Rochdale, where he made more than 150 appearances and helped the club win promotion to the Third Division.
