Claude Lemieux dead at age 60, Montreal Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche)

Claude Lemieux, the Canadian ice hockey player who starred for the New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche, died on May 28, 2026, at age 60.

Born Claude Percy Lemieux on July 16, 1965, in Buckingham, Quebec, he played 21 NHL seasons between 1983 and 2009, becoming one of the league’s more accomplished postseason performers. Drafted by Montreal in 1983, he spent seven seasons with the Canadiens and won his first Stanley Cup with the club in 1986.

He later helped the Devils to two championships and captured the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff most valuable player during their 1995 title run. Lemieux also won two more Stanley Cups later in his career, and his son Brendan Lemieux also went on to play in the NHL.
