Arturo León Lerma Politician dead at age 88

Arturo León Lerma, a Mexican Hall of Fame baseball executive with Naranjeros de Hermosillo and politician, died on February 19, 2026, at age 88.

Born in Álamos, Sonora, in 1937, he was a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party and served as a federal deputy in the 58th Congress from 2000 to 2003, representing Sonora’s seventh district. He began in the front office of the Mayos de Navojoa in the 1970s and later served as president of the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico from 1981 to 1985 and again from 1989 to 2000.

He completed his executive career with a 14-year stint with the Naranjeros de Hermosillo and was inducted into the Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011 as an executive.

Arturo León Lerma (1 March 1937 – 19 February 2026) was a Mexican politician from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI). From 2000 to 2003 he served as a federal deputy in the 58th Congress, representing Sonora’s seventh district.
