William M.
Bugg, an American physicist, died on February 19, 2026, at the age of 95. Born William Maurice Bugg in St.
Louis, Missouri, on January 23, 1931, he attended Oak Ridge High School and graduated in 1948. He earned his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1952 and later served as an instructor at the Antiaircraft and Guide Missile School in Fort Bliss. Bugg was a professor in the department of physics at the University of Tennessee from 1968 to 1996. In 1974, he was elected a fellow of the American Physical Society.
