André Lacroix, a Canadian ice hockey player known for his playmaking as a centre, died October 27, 2026, aged 81.
Born André Joseph Lacroix in Lévis, Quebec, he developed as a junior player with the Peterborough Petes, leading his league in assists in 1964–65 and 1965–66 and in points in the latter season. He also played for the Quebec Aces before joining the Philadelphia Flyers midway through the 1967–68 NHL season.
Lacroix recorded 14 points in 18 games to finish that season, then led the Flyers in scoring in each of the next two seasons, with 50 points both times. He completed three consecutive 20-goal seasons in Philadelphia before a trade to the Chicago Black Hawks, where he had a difficult season. With the launch of the World Hockey Association in 1972, Lacroix joined the Philadelphia Blazers and produced 50 goals and 74 assists, earning the league’s scoring trophy. After one season, he declined to move with the franchise to Vancouver and was traded to the New York Golden Blades. The organization subsequently moved to New Jersey and San Diego, and Lacroix became known for his skill in setting up plays, killing penalties and taking faceoffs.
