Ahmet Altay Cengizer, a Turkish diplomat, died on April 8, 2026, at the age of 71.

Born in Istanbul on October 22, 1954, he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Boğaziçi University in 1977 and later received a master’s degree in international history from the London School of Economics. Cengizer began his diplomatic career in 1984 and served in several Turkish embassies.

From 2001 to 2005, he worked in the office of Turkey’s delegate to the United Nations in New York. He later served as Turkish ambassador to Tajikistan from 2005 to 2006 and as Turkey’s permanent delegate to UNESCO, where he also served as president of the General Conference.
