Suzanne N.
“Sue” Gunzburger, an American activist and long-term elected official in Broward County, Florida, died on March 1, 2026. She was 86.
Gunzburger served as a Broward County commissioner and worked as a social worker and teacher. She was known for supporting environmental preservation, social services, public funding of the arts, LGBT equality, and the adoption of the Broward County Ethics Code. Born in Buffalo, New York, she earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Wayne State University and a Master of Social Work degree from Barry University. She was also appointed by President Jimmy Carter as a delegate to the White House Conference on Families in 1980.
