Michael Jonathon Smith, the Scottish cricketer, died on March 1, 2026, aged 59.
Born in Edinburgh on March 30, 1966, he was a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-pace bowler who made his Scotland debut in 1987 against Ireland, scoring 79 in the first innings. After being dropped in 1990, he returned to the side in 1994 and made his top score of 100 that year.
Smith appeared in the ICC Trophy in 1997 and was part of Scotland’s 1999 Cricket World Cup squad. He also played senior-level rugby and later worked as a sales representative.
