Peter Nworie Chukwu, a Nigerian Roman Catholic prelate and bishop of Abakaliki since 2021, died on April 10, 2026, aged 60.
He was born on November 5, 1965, in Ededeagu Umuezekohohu, Ebonyi State, Nigeria. Chukwu began his priestly formation at the Seat of Wisdom Seminary in Owerri, completed his philosophical studies in 1989, and later studied theology at Bigard Memorial Major Seminary in Enugu, finishing in 1993.
He pursued postgraduate studies in the United States at Franciscan University of Steubenville from 2000 to 2001 and earned a doctorate in philosophy from Marquette University between 2002 and 2007.
