
Sir Alan Frampton, a New Zealand agricultural economist, died on April 10, 2026, aged 96.
Born in Morrinsville on 2 November 1929, he completed a master’s degree at Massey University in 1964. He was an academic at Massey University from 1968 to 1983 before working as a consultant.
Frampton served on the New Zealand Dairy Board from 1973 to 1993 and was chair of the Tatua Dairy Company from 1990 to 2003. He received the New Zealand 1990 Commemoration Medal, was appointed a Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2005 for services to agriculture, and later accepted redesignation as a Knight Companion. He also received honorary and alumni honours from Massey University.
