Edward Tyover Anyamkyegh, a Nigerian professional footballer who played as a forward, died on November 4, 2026, aged 48.
Born in Gboko on October 10, 1978, he represented Nigeria at the 1995 FIFA U-17 World Championship, scoring twice in the group stage. His senior club career took him across Moldova, Ukraine and Finland: between 1999 and 2005, he played for FC Sheriff Tiraspol, FC Karpaty Lviv and Kuopion Palloseura in those countries’ top divisions.
The six-year stretch followed his youth international appearance and gave his career a distinctly international course before he continued playing in Finland. From 2007 to 2011, he represented various clubs in the Finnish lower divisions, ending his playing career there after several seasons outside the country’s top tier. His career in Ukraine also drew attention in print: Franklin Foer’s 2004 book How Soccer Explains the World includes a chapter following Anyamkyegh’s career there. His playing record thus encompassed youth international football, senior competition in three countries and a later run through Finland’s lower leagues.
