
Kyriakos Sfetsas, Greek composer, died on April 20, 2026, at the age of 80.
Born in Amfilochia and raised in Lefkada, he first studied music at the Philharmonic Band and the National Conservatory of the city with Fotis Vlachos. He later studied at the National Conservatory of Athens from 1963 to 1966, where he studied piano with Krino Kalomiri and music theory with Michalis Vourtsis.
His body of work included symphonic, choral, ballet and theatre music, chamber and electronic works, film scores, solo pieces, jazz and fusion compositions, and songs set to Greek and world poems. His first public performance, Episodes for piano solo, was presented in Paris after the May 1968 uprising.
