Gordon Ingate, an Australian Olympic sailor who competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics, died on April 24, 2026, at the age of 100.
Born Gordon Wilson Ingate on March 29, 1926, he sailed in the Tempest class keelboat at the Munich Games. He also skippered Caprice of Huon in the 1972 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, finishing second behind Ted Turner, and later sailed 12-Metre Gretel II in the 1977 America’s Cup challengers’ trials, where he was eliminated by Sweden.
