
Gillian White, the British-born Swiss sculptor, died on January 31, 2026.
Born in Orpington, Kent, on June 20, 1939, she lived and worked in Leibstadt, Switzerland. She studied at Saint Martin’s School of Art and the Central School of Art and Design in London, and at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
In 1969, shortly before moving to Switzerland, she won her first competition with Gewässerschutzplastik, a polyester sculpture for a public artwork in Olten. White was known for large-scale public works and art commissions for buildings, including Echodrome, made with her husband Albert Siegenthaler, and other public installations in Switzerland and Germany.
