Normana Wight, an Australian artist best known as a painter and printmaker, died on January 31, 2026, aged 89.
Born on March 9, 1936, she studied painting at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology from 1954 to 1957 and later studied printmaking at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London in 1962 and 1963. After working briefly as a fabric designer and high school art teacher, she returned to Australia in 1964 and moved to Sydney, then Mittagong, New South Wales.
She returned to Melbourne in 1967 to teach at the Preston Institute of Technology. Her early work focused on abstract forms in fields of bright colour.
