Joe Mulholland, the Irish television executive who served as managing director of RTÉ Television, died on January 31, 2026, aged 85.
Patrick Joseph Mulholland worked in a number of capacities with national broadcaster RTÉ, including as managing director of RTÉ Television. Born in 1940 in Ballybofey, County Donegal, he later returned to Ireland in 1970 and joined RTÉ on its first trainee TV producer/director course.
His early work included Irish-language programming, and he later became head of current affairs in 1980 before being appointed Director of News in 1990.
