Born Marijke Van de Graaf in the Netherlands on November 13, 1946, she went on to represent Switzerland and built a career that combined competitive running with advocacy for women’s access to races on equal terms with men. She was widely noted as the first woman to run a marathon in under three hours.
After marrying fellow athlete Albrecht Moser in 1970, she moved to Bern, and her daughter, Mirja Jenni-Moser, also later took part in the Morat-Fribourg race.
