
Frank Booker, the American basketball player who starred at Bowling Green State University and later gained prominence in Iceland, died on February 20, 2026.
Frank Alonzo Booker was 61. Born in Augusta, Georgia, in 1964, he played college basketball for Bowling Green from 1983 to 1987 before being selected by the New Jersey Nets with the second pick in the seventh round of the 1987 NBA draft.
He had short pre-season stints with the Nets, Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers, and became a three-time scoring champion and four-time All-Star in Iceland’s Úrvalsdeild karla. Booker led Valur to the league finals in 1992 and won the Icelandic Basketball Cup with Grindavík in 1995.

He gained considerable fame in Iceland as a high scoring guard in the Úrvalsdeild karla during the early 1990s. He was a three-time scoring champion in the Úrvalsdeild and four time All-Star. In 1992, he led Valur to the Úrvalsdeild finals and in 1995 he won the Icelandic Basketball Cup with Grindavík.
