Rod Monroe, an American politician who served in the Oregon House of Representatives and Senate, died on February 20, 2026, at age 83.

Monroe served in the Oregon House from 1977 to 1981 and in the Senate from 1981 to 1989 and again from 2007 to 2019. He represented District 24 in the middle part of Multnomah County, including most of eastern Portland and the city of Happy Valley.

Born Wayne Roderick Monroe on August 20, 1942, in McBride, British Columbia, he was raised in Oregon. He graduated from Portland’s Franklin High School in 1960, attended Warner Pacific University, and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Portland State College in 1965 and 1969. He also taught history and government at Tigard High School and later served on the David Douglas school board.

Wayne Roderick Monroe (August 20, 1942 – February 20, 2026) was an American politician who served in the Oregon Senate, representing District 24 in the middle part of Multnomah County, which includes most of eastern Portland and the city of Happy Valley.
