Joseph L.
Green, an American science-fiction author and charter member of the Science Fiction Writers of America, died on February 20, 2026, at age 95. Born in Compass Lake in Jackson County, Florida, on January 14, 1931, he was known for the novel Gold the Man and for prolific short-story writing.
His work was translated into German, Italian, Spanish, French, Polish and Dutch. Green received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama and worked at various times as a mill hand, construction worker and supervisor for Boeing.
