David Kinsella, the New Zealand cricket umpire and former player, died on June 16, 2026, aged 89.

Born in New Plymouth on February 23, 1937, David Arthur Kinsella stood in three Test matches between 1981 and 1983 and officiated in six one-day internationals from 1982 to 1985. Before taking up umpiring at the highest level, he played for Central Districts in the Plunket Shield and for Taranaki in the Hawke Cup.

Kinsella was also a teacher and deputy head teacher, and he was the father of Penny Kinsella.
