Henry attended King’s College, Auckland, before studying law at the University of Auckland, where he earned a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1954. He was admitted to the New Zealand bar the following year. In 1957, he married Jennefer Lynne Stevenson, and they had one son and two daughters.
