A wing, he represented Counties at provincial level and was part of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, on their 1978 tour of Britain and Ireland. On that tour he played eight matches and scored four tries, though he did not appear in any internationals.
Kururangi also took part in the 1982 New Zealand Māori rugby union tour of Wales and Spain. Born in Gisborne on July 4, 1957, he attended Gisborne Boys’ High School.
