Prichard Colón, the Puerto Rican boxer who became an honorary WBC World Champion, died on August 13, 2026, aged 33, from complications of a brain hemorrhage.
Born in Maitland, Florida, on September 19, 1992, Colón won gold at the 2010 Pan American Youth Championship in the 64 kg division and later turned professional. His career was changed after a 2015 bout with Terrel Williams, when he was repeatedly struck in the back of the head, collapsed in the dressing room and spent 221 days in a coma.
He remained in a persistent vegetative state, was unable to speak, and was later cared for with physiotherapy and a computer used for communication.
