Dumitru Marcu, the Romanian football player and manager known as “Mitică,” died on August 13, 2026, aged 76.
Born in Drăghiceni on April 9, 1950, he began playing junior football in 1965 with CFR Caracal before moving to Steaua București in 1970. Marcu made his Divizia A debut later that year in a 1–1 draw with Progresul București, coming on as a substitute for Nicolae Pantea, and was part of the Steaua side that won the Cupa României at the end of the season.
He later joined Universitatea Craiova during the 1971–72 campaign and remained a notable figure in Romanian football as both a forward and coach.
