“Bud” Moore, an American college football player and coach, died on February 2, 2026, at age 86. Moore played at the University of Alabama under Bear Bryant from 1958 to 1960, earning three varsity letters.

He later coached at Kansas, where he served as head coach from 1975 to 1978 and compiled an 18–26–1 record. In his first season, he was named Big Eight Coach of the Year and finished runner-up for the Football Writers Association of America National Coach of the Year award. That year, Kansas upset eventual national champion Oklahoma, 23–3, ending the Sooners’ 37-game unbeaten streak and giving coach Barry Switzer his first loss.

Robert W. “Bud” Moore (October 16, 1939 – February 2, 2026) was an American college football player and coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Kansas from 1975 to 1978, compiling a record of 18–26–1. In his first season in 1975, Moore was named Big Eight Coach of the Year and was runner-up to Woody Hayes of Ohio State as the Football Writers Association of America National Coach of the Year. Moore led his team to a 23–3 upset over eventual national champion Oklahoma, breaking the Sooners’ 37-game unbeaten streak and handing coach Barry Switzer his first loss.
