Born in Legnaro in 1939, he rode as a professional from 1961 to 1964 and placed third in the 1962 Giro di Lombardia. Cerato also started the Giro d’Italia in 1962 and 1963.
His cycling career ended after a serious crash in the 1964 Giro di Lombardia, after which he took over his father-in-law’s funeral home business and later founded Impresa San Siro in Milan.
