Bobby Tambling, the English footballer who starred for Chelsea and the national team and later managed Cork Celtic, died on June 3, 2026.
He was 84. Born Robert Victor Tambling in London on September 18, 1941, he joined Chelsea as a teenager and made his debut in 1959, beginning a career that ran from 1959 to 1979.
A forward by trade, he became Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer for 47 years, finishing with 202 goals in all competitions and still holding the club record for league goals with 164. Tambling also won the League Cup with Chelsea in 1965 and was part of the side that reached the 1967 FA Cup final.
