Bob Packwood, the American politician who served in the U.S.
Senate from 1969 to 1995, died on June 6, 2026, at age 93. Born Robert William Packwood in Portland, Oregon, he grew up in the state’s capital region and later became a lawyer as well as a lawmaker.
After graduating from Grant High School in 1950, he attended Willamette University, earning a degree in 1954, and later studied at New York University School of Law. Packwood began his elective career in the Oregon House of Representatives, where he served from 1963 to 1969 before winning a long Senate tenure. He remained one of Oregon’s best-known political figures for decades, leaving the Senate in 1995.
