Augie Meyers, an American musician, songwriter, studio musician, record producer and record label owner, died on March 7, 2026, at age 85.

He was best known as a founding member of the Sir Douglas Quintet and the Texas Tornados. Born August Edmond George Meyer Jr.

in San Antonio, Texas, on May 31, 1940, Meyers helped found the Sir Douglas Quintet with Doug Sahm in the early 1960s. His Vox organ was a familiar part of the group’s sound on songs including “She’s About a Mover,” “Mendocino” and “Nuevo Laredo.” In the 1990s, he co-founded the Texas Tornados with Sahm, Flaco Jiménez and Freddy Fender.
